Of Getting Old and A Lil Bit Wiser

Happy birthday to you,

this is your day.

On this day for you were gonna love you in every way.

This is your day, your day,

happy birthday to you, to you, to you.

Happy birthday to you,

youre still young.

Age is just a number, dont you stop having fun.

This is your day, your day, happy birthday to you.

This day only comes once every year,

Because youre so wonderful with each and everything you do, hey!

Happy birthday to you, this is your day.

On this day for you were gonna love you in every way.

This is your day, your day, happy birthday to you, to you.

This day is only for you, cause you're so special in every way,

Happy birthday to you!

The song above is called Happy Birthday and sung by the New Kids On The Block (NKOTB). I read somewhere that the NKOTB is getting back together and coming out with an album. I am not ashame to admit that I was sooooooo in love with Jordan Knight back then and I used to have his pictures all over my wall in my room. I even cut out his pictures and glued them on the cover of my schoolbooks. Those were the days...aaahh...things were much simpler back then. You never have to worry about your kids playing at the playground without supervision or going to tea-parties with their friends. People were less complicated back then I think.

I turn 34 today. Have I become a better person now than 20 years ago? Do I still maintain friendships from when I was 14? Yes and yes. And for that I am thankful. Not everyone can say that they are surrounded by good friends all the time.

At midnight today I received dozens of text messages wishing me Happy Birthday. My hubby told me that I am lucky to have such thoughtful friends and I told him that you have to work hard to maintain friendships. I never forget to wish my friends Happy Birthday and in return they never forget to wish me. Friendships are always about reciprocation. You have to give to receive.

So to all my wonderful friends, thank you for all the birthday wishes. I am glad to have you as a friend.

To my loving and wonderful husband, thank you for the birthday gift. Thank you for understanding and putting up with this stubborn woman. And I hope you look forward to growing old with me as I look forward to growing old with you.

Of Wishes and Wedding Anniversary

I cannot believe I just celebrated my 1st year wedding anniversary last Saturday. It seems like I just got married yesterday. That’s a good thing right? I mean to feel like you just got married (even after it’s been a year) and still be very much in love with your husband? I am one lucky gal.

I’m also going to be celebrating my 34th birthday this Friday, Feb the 8th. Gosh. The clock is ticking really, really fast now. February is a very festive month for me. Heheh…I pity hubby though. He’ll be broke every February what with our anniversary and my birthday happening in the same month.

For my anniversary present, Hubby decided to treat me to a weekend getaway. He brought me to Saujana KL. We stayed at the hotel one night and had dinner at this lovely Italian restaurant called Senja. It was such a romantic getaway even though it was only like a 15 mins drive from our house. Next year we planned to really get away…at least out of KL.

So what do I wish for this year? If you’ve been reading my blog then you would know. That’s the only thing I wish for this year…that and a huge big fat bonus at the end of the year…InsyaAllah…

Love Is A Tricky Thing

“You can’t help who you fall in love with”.

Can’t you?

A friend of mine would vehemently argue that the above statement is total bullshit and a whole load of crap.

He and I had this discussion before about why people have affairs even though they’re married. In my opinion, people have affairs because they feel that there is a void in the marriage. They’re not getting what they need in the marriage, hence the need to look for it somewhere else. I told him that is certainly not an excuse but somehow that is the reason given by people who have affairs.

He said that you CAN help who you fall in love with if you know where the lines are. Then you know not to cross it. He said you should always, always avoid making a “connection” be it physical or emotional with people who are engaged or married. He said you should even avoid people who have gfs or bfs. I told him it’s easier said than done. You watch all these movies about married people who found their so-called soulmates AFTER they’ve been married to other people. Somehow movies made it easier to just follow your heart and leave your existing partner and go make a life with your soulmate. Once in a while they do make movies about how tough life is for children of the divorced couple but it always have a happy ending. The children in those movies ALWAYS end up understanding why their parents got divorced, believing that they are not the cause of the divorce and ended up being friends with their stepmoms and stepdads.

Is that always the case in real life?

My friend believed that you can be happy just being single. You do not need to create unnecessary drama in your life just to spice things up. I told him usually the dramas are created by people who are in a relationship. He just laughed. Think about it. Why the need to seek for attention somewhere else when you can get that from your wife/husband/fiancée/gf/bf? In this day and age, sex before marriage is so common that people starts to hump each other even after the first date! I’m not here to judge. I’m just saying that’s the reality of life today. So if you can get your sexual needs satisfied by your partner, why the need to seek “attention” somewhere else? But then again it's not always about sex, is it?

Say the sex was bad, for example. Is it wrong to communicate and tell your partner that the sex was bad? I mean, you love your partner, right? If you love your partner, wouldn’t you want to make them happy? Yes, they may not be thrilled to hear you tell them that sex was bad and that they need to improve but deep down I’m sure they would at least try to make it good, right? How big of an ego can one person have that they would get totally offended and ask for a break-up just because you were being honest with them?

You hear about married people having affairs almost everyday. I don’t blame people who’d rather stay single for the rest of their life. How tight a leash can you have on your husband/wife anyway? For a woman, you can invoke fear in your husband by telling them you’ll cut their balls off if you ever found out they are fooling around with other women but would you actually do it? You think your husband believe that you’d actually cut their balls off? At the end of the day, when your husband come back home and tell you he wants out of the marriage because he had found someone else more loving or more pretty or more sexy or a better cook than you, what else can you do? Beg him to stay? Tell him you’d be a better wife in the future? Blame yourself for his indiscretions? Or would you take that knife and cut his balls off?

It’s true. You CAN’T help who you fall in love with. But you can draw the line on who you should or should not get closed to and promise not to cross that line no matter what. I found this quote in one of the articles on the internet, “Love doesn’t just sit there, like a stone, it has to be made, like bread, remade all the time, made new…, all the time, made new…”

No matter how much time you spend trying to make perfect bread, if the other person is sick and tired of eating your bread then it’s pointless, isn’t it?

Welcome back to Reality

Happy New Year everyone!

I flew to Kuching with hubby on the 28th Dec and stayed there til 2nd Jan. The main reason for going back was to attend hubby’s brother’s kenduri kahwin on 30th Dec. The akad nikah already took place on 30th Nov. Hubby didn’t get to see his family during Hari Raya because he started his new job and didn’t have any leave. Pictures of the wedding are posted on my FB.

New year in Kuching was quiet. Maybe because I didn’t really spend New Year in Kuching. We went to this place called Sematan. It’s like PD and we rented the chalet there for one night. So on the eve of new year, hubby, FIL together with my BILs had bbq-ed some lamb, chicken, prawns and cuttlefish by the beach. There were no fireworks, only total darkness and the sound of the waves. It was good for a change I guess spending new year away from KL. I missed my family but hubby’s family made me feel so welcome and loved. We ate so much! My MIL cooked Laksa Sarawak (I made the mistake of calling it Laksa Sarawak while I was there and hubby laughed at me and said that I don’t have to call it “Laksa Sarawak” when I’m in Sarawak), stuffed chicken with potatoes, Bubur pedas (didn’t really like it but hubby said the bubur pedas that we had was not the same as the bubur pedas his grandma used to cook) and other local dishes that I cant remember the names. On the night we arrived in Kuching, hubby asked his brother to buy Mee Kolok for us. It was truly delicious. How come we don’t have Mee Kolok here in KL?

Sematan was nice. Too bad it rained throughout our stay there. Nak mandi laut pun tak leh coz the waves was quite strong.

We also had the most delicious seafood in Kuching. The butter prawns were awesome!!

My good friend, L, who has been married for almost 8 years told me that she might be pregnant. They have been ever since they got married and were desperate for a child. She went “berurut” with this elderly woman who calls herself Mak Som in Kuantan a few months back and told me that this Mak Som is really good and all the women who went to her had gotten pregnant. L told me there are a few conditions that she has to follow e.g. after berurut for 3 days in a row, L and her hubby must have sex everyday for 14 days and tak boleh miss even 1 day (errmm…for some men this is quite daunting, am I right?) and after that must refrain from having sex for 4 months!!! I think this is even more difficult that having sex 14 days in a row, no? How do you NOT have sex with your husband for 4 months??!! Can tahan ah? Hehehe…But for L she said she would do anything to be pregnant so she followed Mak Som’s conditions religiously and yesterday she texted me and told me there’s a faint line on the pregnancy kit.
She was so excited and was supposed to go see a doctor next week to confirm. For her sake I hope she is pregnant. She told me Mak Som is coming to KL next week and if I want to berurut with her then L will take me to see Mak Som. There’s no harm in trying right? I told hubby and hubby said there’s no harm in trying but 4 months without sex??!! Hehehe..Sabar jer lah…I don’t wanna get my hopes up..I told L to redha and if it doesn’t happen then she must be patient. Pandai jer cakap kat orang camtu kan? But bila kena batang hidung sendiri tak tahu nak console diri sendiri. Sigh…
Oh yeah, I got my year-end bonus and was quite happy with it. I got an Ipod Classic 80GB as a present to myself. Wanted to get the 160GB initially but then hubby said what was I gonna do with 160GB anyways. He's right i suppose. My 1st wedding anniversary is also coming up. I told hubby there's no way I'm getting him a PS2 or PSP or an XBox. If I do get pregnant THEN maybe he'd get one. If that's not motivation enough for him then I dont know what is. Hehehe...

Happy New Year!

Aaahhh...2007...it's one helluva year.
I got married to a wonderful man.
I love my husband so much. Sometimes I think I may be too harsh on him but I hope he knows that I love him deeply and that I am trying to be a good wife. I thank god I have such wonderful in-laws too.
I got a promotion.
Got hooked on this wonderful thing called Facebook. From FB, I found most of my ex-SMDJ schoolmates.
Had the opportunity to see Gwen Stefani (best performance ever), Shaggy, Whitney Houston (more like Britney Houston...thank god I didn't pay for the tickets) and My Chemical Romance (also got free tickets...hehehe...life is good!) in concert.
Next year we can look forward to Incubus, Celine Dion and Maroon 5!
Watched P. Ramlee The Musical. I thought it was a really good show. Cried few times too.
Said goodbye to some friends who had to leave the country to follow their husbands to US, Sudan, Dubai and Qatar. We miss you Rina. It's not the same without you here.
Nurin Jazlin Jazimin's tragedy.
HINDAF and BERSIH.
The demise of my grand-aunt.
It's always good to reflect on what you have done for the past 11 months and 16 days. I have to say it's been a very good year for me. I'm still trying to get pregnant. Trying very hard. I try not to let it get to me when I'm unsuccessful but I believe Allah knows best.
Dear Friends,
I wish you guys a great and Happy New Year. I will be spending new year in Kuching with hubby and in-laws. Anyone nak pesan kek lapis?
For my Muslim friends, Selamat Hari Raya AidilAdha!
For my Christian friends, I wish you Merry Christmas!
I have a question for you guys. What sacrifices have you made this year? Was it worth it?
In 15 days we will be saying goodbye to 2007 and welcoming 2008. Are you guys looking forward to it? I know I am :-))

Dedicated to the Design Diva, Mr. Ifzan Ibrahim

I have a friend.

My friend is very famous.

Everyone knows him.

Because he is a camera whore.

He loves to pose in front of the camera.

Maybe because he is soooooo good looking.

He was featured in the newspaper and magazine.

The Star and Marie Claire.

That’s how famous he is.

They call him the “design diva”.

I wonder if you can use the word “diva” to describe a guy.

Maybe for him it’s an exception because he is soooooo cool.

He is very creative. Loves to doodle.

He is also my Facebook buddy.

I like him because he doesn’t poke me in FB.

My famous friend’s name is Ifzan Ibrahim

I feel so honoured to have a famous friend like Ifzan Ibrahim.

I think after this he may make his blog “private”.

Because he will be receiving fan mails. And comments from his female stalkers.

Maybe these women wants him for his body.

This entry is dedicated to Ifzan Ibrahim.

My friend…the Design Diva.

Long live Ifzan Ibrahim.

p/s : Theta, will do your tag next ya :P
pp/s ; Don't ask me what's the story behind this post. It's only between me, my FB buddies and Mr. Design Diva.
