Ode to the Spice Girls....

I LOVE THE SPICE GIRLS. Seriously. I love their songs and even though people say they’re not good singers but I think they know how to market themselves. How many British girl groups can make it big in America?

My favourite was Melanie C (Sporty Spice) because she has a decent voice and didn’t act like a Diva. Victoria Adams (Posh Spice) can’t really sing but sure as hell acted like a Diva even until now. Melanie B is indeed Scary. Emma Bunton aka Baby Spice is cute and Geri Halliwell aka Ginger Spice is sexy in a trashy kinda way (when she was in Spice Girls I mean).

They have taught us so much through their songs. Check it out.

In “Wannabe” they taught us that lovers may come and go but friendship last forever. So, if a guy wants to get on your good side he better get on well with your friends.

“If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends

Make it last forever friendship never ends
If you wanna be my lover, you have got to give
Taking is too easy, but that’s the way it is…”

They also taught us to “Stop” and smell the roses, read the signs properly and not bulldoze your way into anything. I also love the dance move. If I sing this song in a karaoke with friends, we will sure dance to this song. Best giler! Hehehe…

“Stop right now, thank you very much,

I need somebody with the human touch,
Hey you always on the run,
Gotta slow if down baby, gotta have some fun…

Don’t you know its going to fast,
Racing so hard you know it wont last,
Don’t you know, what can’t you see,
Slow it down, read the sign so you know just where you’re going…”

In “Viva Forever”, the Spice Girls spoke about friendship again. Think they sang this song after Geri’s exit from the group.

“Yes I still remember every whispered word,

The touch of your skin giving life from within like a love song that I'd heard
Slipping through our fingers, like the sands of time,
Promises made, every memory saved as reflections in my mind

Hasta manana, always be mine

Viva forever, Ill be waiting,
Everlasting like the sun,
Live forever, for the moment,
Ever searching for the one…”

This is another one of my favourite song, “Let Love Lead The Way”. The title speaks for itself, don’t u think so?

“No matter what we must go on
Just keep the faith
And let love lead the way
Everything will work out fine
If you let love, love lead the way

Sitting there all alone
In the window of her room
Watching the world go by
Brings tears to her eyes
All she sees is hurt and pain, she wants to break the chain
She'll keep pressing everyday and she'll find her own sweet way

Part of me laughs (me laughs)
Part of me cries (I cry)
Part of me wants to question why (wants to question why)..."

The Spice Girls also taught us that “Too Much” of something may not be a good thing. I have a feeling they’re talking about having too much or too little S-E-X here but hey it’s up to your imagination okay. Hehehe…

"Too Much of Something is bad enough,
But something's coming over me to make me wonder,
Too Much of nothing is just as tough,
I need to know the way to feel to keep me satisfied…

What part of no don't you understand (Understand, understand),
I want a man not a boy who thinks he can,
Boy who thinks he can!”

Ooohh! I also love their kick-ass song “Spice Up Your Life”. It’s such a pick-me-upper kinda song kan? Videoclip was cool too!

When your feelin' sad and lone
We will take you, where you gotta go
Smilin' and dancin' everything is free
All you need is positivity

Colours of the world
Spice up your life
Every boy and girl
Spice up your life
People of the world
Spice up your life

Aaahh!!!

Slam it to the left
If you're having a good time
Shake it to the right
If you know that you feel fine
Chicas to the front
Uh Uh go round
Slam it to the left
If you're having a good time
Shake it to the right
If you know that you fell fine
Chicas to the front
Hi Ci Ya
Hold tight!

And of course another one of their “dalam kelambu” kind of song called “Holler”. I don’t know what these girls wanna holler about la but it’s a cool song nonetheless.

“I wanna make you holler
Imagine us together (let me see you holler)
Don’t be afraid to play my game

Boy don’t you hesitate, I won't keep waiting for you
To come and let me take you to my fantasy room
Your gonna like it there and all the things that I'll do
I'll treat ya right all through the night…”

This is also a favourite song of mine by the Spice Girls. It's called "Goodbye". Love the videoclip where they were all dancing and flying around like fireflies. Think this song was dedicated to Geri as well. This song taught us that we should always support our friends in whatever decisions that she/he makes may it be their choice of partner or career-wise. Only she can decide what is good for her. All you need to do is be there for her. Love the part when they sang, “Look for the rainbow in every storm”…

“Goodbye my friend,
(I know your going searching although I can still feel ya here)
It's not the end,
(You gotta keep it strong before the pains turn into fears)
So glad we made it, time will never change it
no no no no no no no

Look for the rainbow in every storm,
Find out for certain
Love is gonna be there for you,
You'll always be someone's baby

Goodbye my friend,
(I know your going searching although I can still feel ya here)
It's not the end,
(You gotta keep it strong before the pain turns into fears)
So glad we made it, time will never change it
no no no No no no no
You know its time to say goodbye
No no no no
You'll always be someone's baby

The times when we would play about,
The way we used to scream and shout,
We never dreamt you'd go your own sweet way
Look for the rainbow in every storm,
Find out for certain love is gonna be there for you,
You'll always be someone's baby..”

And of course the last but not least, “Mama”. Good Mother’s Day song don’t you think so? Apart from Boyz II Men “A Song For Mama” that is. Well, my mother was never my enemy but I guess this song did struck a chord with some people.

“She used to be my only enemy and never let me free,
Catching me in places that I know I shouldn't be,
Ever other day I crossed the line, I didn't mean to be so bad,
I never thought you would become the friend I never had,

Back then I didn't know why, why you were misunderstood,
So now I see through your eyes, all that you did was love,

Mama I love you, Mama I care,
Mama I love you, Mama my friend,
My friend

I didn't want to hear it then but I'm not ashamed to say it now,
Every little thing you said and did was right for me,
I had alot of time to think about, about the way I used to be,
Never had a sense of my responsibilty

Back then I didn't know why, why you were misunderstood,
So now I see through your eyes, all that you did was love..."
